A glamorized tourist
destination, the Commonwealth nation of Antigua and Barbuda offers an array of
beaches, sights, and landmarks that reflects the history of the twin islands from
settlement and colonization to modern-day life. Antigua bleeds a charming blend
of African and European traditions, emulated in the local culture of the island.
This culture is a direct result of the slavery that displaced
African peoples endured on sugar plantations throughout British rule of the
islands. Therefore,
the island’s history of slavery generated an Afro-European blend of individuals
known as Creoles whose unique lifestyle coalesces the two vastly different
roots.Sources
